Temperature control and temperature compensation are two more NTC thermistor applications. Using a minimum amount of circuitry, NTC thermistors can be used for temperature control. Additionally, most circuit precision requires some temperature compensation. Inrush Current Limiter is another application found in NTC thermistors. PTC thermistor applications make use of the characteristics inherent in their com-position. Generally, applications are broken up into two distinct categories that utilize different characteristics of the PTC. The first category is those applications that utilize the voltage-current or current-time characteristics of the PTC thermistor.

There are many automotive and transportation, and military applications for NTC thermistor probes, including industrial process controls, emissions controls, and differential temperature controls. Thermistor probes can be used in automobile and truck tire curing, as well as for monitoring and controlling engine temperatures. One the most common thermistors in medical applications is the YSI 400 series thermistor. One of the issues in thermistors is their high nonlinear behavior and this is solved connecting a parallel resistor to the thermistor resulting in a linear behavior (close to linear) for the thermistor [2], see Fig. 8.3C.
